Our best Kimono figures category returns for its second outing. As the sister to our Cheongsam category, we’ve also retitled it and relaxed its eligibility rules. We hope you enjoy the wider variety of traditional Japanese clothing on the list. If you’re lamenting the lose of our pure Kimono category, don’t.
Before we begin, let’s be clear which figures are eligible for inclusion.
Eligibility
- 1. Figures wearing any kind of kimono or yukata
- 2. Miko outfits or an outfits inspired by them
- 3. Traditional Japanese clothing is OK
- 4. Characters don't need to be Japanese, from a Japanese series, or Japanese manufacturer
Honorable Mentions
We have one honorable mention today and being FuRyu’s exclusive Yukinoshita Yukino White Kimono, she’s a special one. Yukino is wearing a lilac uchikake beneath her pearl white kimono. Both feature sculpted embossing. Her kimono’s detail is on further display with the wind effect that separates the individually sculpted inner sections.

Azur Lane Taihou by Kotobukiya
On the sea and starting our list is Kotobukiya’s exclusive Taihou. She’s wearing a low-cut furisode with burnt orange coloring. Taihou’s exposed forearms and angled wrists are among the best parts of her sculpt. Moving back, her large white fan serves as a backdrop for her bare shoulders in addition to her slender hands and fingers. Her hands in turn, frame her excessive and delightfully impressive bust.

Senko by Myethos
Wearing a traditional red and white miko outfit with a matte sheen, Myethos’ Senko joins our list. The lines in her skirt are simple and clean. Realistic creasing, however, begins to show by her waist, near apron. Senko’s bright face and tiny hands beautifully round off what is our fourth entry and essentially the best shrine maiden figure of the year.

Saber Alter Kimono Ver.
KADOKAWA’s Saber Alter Kimono Ver. was under a lot of pressure from the moment they announced her. The result lived up to the expectations and surpassed it. Saber Alter’s kimono is anything but subtle. Its dark purple and rich red perfectly captures her essence against her pale skin. Her pose is also heavily responsible for her inclusion. The detail in her raised foot and ankle is nothing short of captivating.

Yoshitoku × F:NEX Rem Japanese Doll
This isn’t the only time we’ve seen the most popular maid wearing a kimono in 2020. It is however, her best showing. As the result of a collaboration between F:NEX & Yoshitoku, Rem is wearing an exquisite red and blue kimono made with real fabric. Aside from her beautiful kimono, Rem’s literal porcelain face shows her in the prettiest and most breathtaking light ever.

Foreigner/Katsushika Hokusai
To bring this list to a close, we have Phat’s grandest figure to date and the inaugural one in their “Luxury Gift” series. Hokusai’s daughter is special for the way she excels with her atypical style in figure-form. Except for the flow of the fabric, her kimono isn’t intended to be realistic. The same can be said for her face and even the water behind her. Instead of bringing an anime illustration into the physical world, Phat has done that for an ukiyo-e. For that and her impressive scale, she’s the best figure wearing a kimono or traditional Japanese clothing in 2020!
